Description
While walking through Angra Garden in Angra do Heroismo, my 12 year old son spied this tiny clump of moss with even tinier sprigs of some plant poking up from the moss. Tiny drops of water clung to the small leaves and almost sparkled in the morning sunshine.
Too busy admiring the large, exotic plants featured along the path of the garden, I never would have noticed the beautiful little scene had my son not pointed it out to me.
This is why I love to travel with my son, love to hike with him, and love to explore new places with him. He sees beauty in the smallest details that, as an adult focused on always moving forward, always making progress, I have accidentally trained myself to overlook. This year, I am focused on allowing my son to "retrain" my mind to look all around, see the beauty in the small things that do not stare us right in the eye, and take the time to see the beauty in things both small and grand.
I took more than 3000 photographs while on Terceira, and these are possibly my favorites. I took several photographs of this little scene and decided on these two as my favorites. I think they will be lovely as a pair, and I intend to print them as a pair to hang by my door and remind me each day when I go out, to not only see the beauty in the obvious, but to look for tiny little opportunities to admire the beauty of the world.
