Description
At the southern tip of Angra do Heroismo, just west of the harbor, there is a multi story walkway that winds back and forth up ramps and stairways to several layers of buildings on the steep hillside. This photograph looks down from a terrace above a tall rock wall scattered with big bunches of the orange flowers. Below, you can see a lower walkway, and beyond that, there is a very narrow, rough stone walk that wraps around to the beach. You cannot see the narrow stone walk from here, but you can look down into the deep blue water of the Atlantic Ocean. The water here is somewhat rough due to the rocky floor and coastline, but it is still clear enough to see several feet down into the deep water. The color here is beautiful and gem like. Just a few meters eastward, there is a small beach with beautiful pepper sand. It is the tide crushing up those black rocks that gives the sand the appearance of pepper--a beautiful mixture of black and white particles.
