This is a black and white photograph of an exploding firework created by Kelly Hazel. Most of the photographs focused around fireworks tend to accentuate the brilliant colors of each explosion. I thought it would be interesting to take the color, usually the main focus, away, and focus instead on the beautiful shapes and lines created during the explosions. I am very happy with the results, and feel that I can now enjoy a whole new dimension of beauty while watching the firework displays at various celebrations throughout the year, such as New Years and the American Independence Day Celebrations. I have always loved fireworks, even since I was a little girl.
Because Fireworks are always more dazzling as a group, I created this small series of photographs to be shown together. I hope that collectors will display them together as a set of 3 or more, but I also hope that they are strong enough images to stand on their own in some settings.
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
