Ilheus del Cabras is the largest of the islets in the Azores. It is actually a dual islet, with the smaller side named Ilheu Pequina (small islet) and the larger named Ilheu Grande (big islet) but most people refer to it as a single formation, Ilheus del Cabras, or islets of Goats.
Though the islet is uninhabited, it was once used by shepherds during the early settlement of the Azores to forage goats. Not sure if that is actually true though....
There is also a legend about a young man from Faial Island (also of the Azores) who was banished there for seven years.
There is a long, and rather complicated history of ownership of the islets. Today, they are still uninhabited, but remain private property owned by the family of Jose Luis Evangelho. During the summer months, boating tours will often take people out to swim in the waters around the islets.

Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
