Artist's Description

This is a portrait of the church that stands on Miracle Hill. During the 1950's the church's home for boys and girls ran a mission Farm and needed a new building for the children. Mrs.Noah Smith, a race car driver, became interested in helping them get the new building. She won a contest on the "Queen for a Day" show in New York, and she asked for cement blocks to build the dormatory. Ballard Concrete Company donated beams, and work teams from Indiana and Virginia volunteered to build.
Construction began on the hilltop overlooking the Table Rock area of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They had only a few days to complete the walls when a severe thunderstorm was spotted in the distance. Everyone prayed it would not hinder the construction and the Lord answered. It rained all around the hill, and as close as 50 yards to the work site, but it did not rain atop the hill. That is why they named it "Miracle Hill."
The dormitory was used for many, many purposes while it stood atop the hill...

Kelly Hazel

Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school. This school has grown since then into a year round boarding school that focuses on the Arts. It is truly an amazing program and I count myself blessed to...
