Description
This photograph was created beneath a fishing pier that juts out from the coast of South Carolina at Myrtle Beach State Park.
The town of Myrtle Beach is a bustling tourist destination, boasting a sky wheel, several thrill rides, Rippley's Museums, and countless stores, restaurants, and resort like hotels, it attracts millions of visitors each year. Myrtle Beach State Park lies just on the edge of the bustling town, but feels lightyears away!
The entrance to the park carries you down a shaded, two lane road that runs beneath a thick canopy of maritime trees. The park itself is home to one of very few remaining maritime forests in the Southeastern US and a beautiful, well kept coastline.
This pier is open to park visitors for non-commercial fishing. Gear can be borrowed from the ranger store at the entrance to the pier. The tide can be very turbulent below and around the pier, so swimming is not allowed for several meters on either side in the water below. In this photograph, you can see a waterline on the poles holding the pier up, which shows how high the tide can go during high tides. This photograph was taken at lower tide.
