This photograph captures the eastward view over Angra do Heroismo to the Atlantic Ocean. The photograph was created at the monumental spire that sits at the very top of the Angra Garden, or City Garden.
To the left of the image, you can see the edge of Monte Brasil, the Portuguese Military Base located on a small cauldaria outcrop of the island of Terceira.
Terceira was discovered in the mid 1400's and Angra do Heroismo was established in the late 1400's. It is the 3rd larges of the 9 islands that make up The Azores of Portugal. Angra do Heroismo is the largest city on the island of Terceira.
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school. This school has grown since then into a year round boarding school that focuses on the Arts. It is truly an amazing program and I count myself blessed to...
