Artist's Description
This photograph by Kelly Hazel portrays the Avon Fishing Pier which stands off the coast of Hatteras Island in Avon, North Carolina. The Avon Pier opened its doors in 1962, and was the last pier to be built on Hatteras Island. Today, it remains open to the public through out the fishing season (early spring through late fall).
Avon Pier is 600 feet long, and is visibly twisted and buckled due to repairs that took place more than two decades ago, in the 1980's. The most recent damage to the pier before this photograph was taken is from Hurricane Sandy, in 2012.
The Avon Pier gift shop boasts a great collection of fishing gear for sale or rent, and expert guides to help you make the most of your fishing trip. A wonderful place to visit in Outer Banks, North Carolina.
About Kelly Hazel
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school. This school has grown since then into a year round boarding school that focuses on the Arts. It is truly an amazing program and I count myself blessed to...
