Artist's Description
Welcoming doors at the Circular Church on Meeting St, in Charleston, SC. The Circular Church was founded in about 1681 by Charles Town's original settlers, and it's graveyard is the oldest burial grounds, some monuments date back to the 1600's. This church stands on the site of the original circular meeting hall on Meeting St, which was built in 1804. That meeting hall burned in 1861. The new building was completed in 1892. Many of the bricks from "Old Circular" were used in the new structure, which still stands today.
This congregation was co-founded with Charles Towne, 1680-1685, by the English Congregationalists, Scots Presbyterians. and French Huguenots of the original settlement. In a spirit of diversity and liberality, these "dissenters" erected a Meeting House in the northwest comer of the walled city. The present sanctuary occupies that exact site. The street leading to it was called "Meeting House Street," later shortened to Meeting Street.

About Kelly Hazel
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school. This school has grown since then into a year round boarding school that focuses on the Arts. It is truly an amazing program and I count myself blessed to...
