Artist's Description

Hagood Mill is located in Pickens County in upstate South Carolina. The gristmill was built in 1845 and is one of the oldest gristmills still producing grain in South Carolina.
Hagood Mill State Historic Site is home to the gristmill itself, as well as a blacksmithing shop, cotton gin, moonshine still, two historic cabins, a short nature trail, a historic bridge, and a small museum highlighting the earliest inhabitants of the area and showcasing the largest known collection of petroglyphs in the state.
The historic site is open to the public daily. On the 3rd Saturday of every month, the site hosts a wide range of events from music festivals, reenactments, and story telling competitions. The gristmill is still in operation, and you can purchase grain made on the gristmill in a small shop beside the mill.

About Kelly Hazel

Kelly Hazel

Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school. This school has grown since then into a year round boarding school that focuses on the Arts. It is truly an amazing program and I count myself blessed to...
