This black and white photograph depicts an abstracted view of part of the blue ridge mountains in South Carolina reflected in a lake. This lake is at the base of Table Rock, just outside the Table Rock State Park Headquarters office.
On the day I created this image, the clouds in Greenville, SC, where I live were stunning all day long. I decided.....somewhat just too late....to race up to Table Rock to watch the sunset because the view there is so peaceful and beautiful. Unfortunately, I made it up there just a few minutes AFTER sunset, and most of the beautiful clouds from earlier in the day had been burned away by the sun or blown away by the wind. I missed the clouds and the sunset, but I love the peaceful simplicity of the resulting image. The beauty of the mountain line gets to shine in all of its glory without competing with a fiery sunset or magnificent cloud scape.
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
