Description
Joshua Tree National Park is located in Southern California near Palm Springs, Indio, and Desert Springs. It spans almost 800,000 acres across both the Mohave Desert and the Colorado Desert. While most of us think of the desert as a desolate and dead place, the desert is very much alive in Joshua Tree National Park!
It is home to a diverse array of plants and animals and encompasses numerous rock formations, mountains, desert washes, and planes. Together, all of this forms an incredible, otherworldly landscape filled with unique flowers, lizards, cacti, trees, bushes, bugs, giant boulders, birds, and other animals.
The Mohave Desert and the Colorado Desert meet inside Joshua Tree National Park, providing a unique ecosystem of plants and animals that overlap from each desert.
Notable plants are the Ocotillo cacti, the Cholla cacti, also known as the “jumping cactus”, and of course, the Joshua Tree.
Joshua tree is an ideal place to create stunning landscape photographs, wildlife photographs, and botanical photographs. Bird watching is also a popular activity in the park. At night, the skies in Joshua Tree are the darkest in the state, providing the perfect atmosphere for star gazing.
As beautiful as this park is, one must be carful visiting as temperatures can be extreme.
