Rainbow Falls is located in Jones Gap State Park in Upstate South Carolina. The park is part of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area that connects Jones Gap State Park to Caesars Head State Park through a network of beautiful and well maintained trails.
The Jones Gap Trail was originally built by Solomon Jones and used as a toll road which ran along the Middle Saluda River, connecting Upstate Mountain areas to Greenville South Carolina to create a much shorter route for travelers wishing to buy and sell goods at the Markets in Greenville. Though he had no formal education in civil engineering, transportation, or construction, he and his wife successfully ran the toll roads until their deaths.
As the automobile became more popular and affordable, the road was gradually abandoned in favor of the longer, but smoother roads around the mountain because it was too rough for most cars to traverse.

Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
