Artist's Description
I found this rose while on a morning stroll through Angra Garden in December. The rose is actually a very beautiful, warm pink color, and there is a color version of this photograph in this gallery as well, but I wanted to create the image in black and white because I particularly love the textures in this image.
When we take away the color, it magnifies the beautiful play of light on the rose, the warmth radiating from the center, the delicate texture of the petals, and the dimension of the little drops of water resting on the petals.
The edges of the petals on this rose were darker than the center, which is rather uncommon in roses that I am familiar with, so it looked as if a light was radiating out of the rose. It reminded me of a beating heart or a warm glow that I associate with love and happiness.
About Kelly Hazel
Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
