This photograph looks out over a natural bay formed by long ago volcanic eruptions on the Island of Terceira. Terceira is the 3rd largest of the nine islands that make up the Azores region of Portugal. The sit in the Atlantic ocean about 900 miles off the coast of Portugal.
During my visit to Terceira, I fell in love with the colors of the island, so most of my images are in color, but I loved the interaction between the textures of the rocky cliffs, the soft brush and grass, the billowy sky, and the rippling water in this image, so I created a black and white version to highlight those textural differences.

Kelly Hazel I was born and raised in Upstate South Carolina. I've loved drawing ever since I could hold anything that would make a mark. In high school, I attended the Fine Arts Center, a magnet school for the Arts. This is where I discovered photography for the first time. I also got to try my hand with sculpture and 3-D design....no talent in that 3rd dimension for me, but I earned a deep respect and appreciation for the artists brave enough to venture into it. I also attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts at Furman University during my senior year in high school.
