Description
This is an image of a historic bridge in South Carolina. The bridge once served as part of the State Road that lead from Greenville, SC to Ashville, NC. It was built in 1820 by Abram Blanding under Joel R Poinsett (after whom the Westin Poinsett Hotel is named, the first US Minister to Mexico). The Stone marker itself was donated by the Nathanael Greene Chapter of the Dauthers of American Revolution. The bridge itself is of Gothic Architecture and features a 130 foot gothic arch over part of the Saluda River. It is preserved in the Poinsett Historic Preservation Area off of Hwy 11.
